Channels are C-shaped sections used for purlins, frames, vehicle chassis, platforms and crane runways. ISMC (Indian Standard Medium Channel) is the series most buyers ask for. Float your list once and compare verified mills and stockists on landed cost.
ISMC sections are named by their depth in mm: ISMC 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, 225, 250, 300, 350 and 400. Each size has a fixed flange width, web and flange thickness and weight per metre, set out in IS 808. The steel is normally IS 2062 E250; E350 is available for heavier designs. Light channels (ISLC) and parallel-flange channels are also rolled by some mills.
Channels are sold by the tonne, and billing is on the section weight or the weighbridge. Do not rely on a weight chart copied from the internet - charts in circulation differ, and IS 808 has been revised. Two reliable checks:

Use the section table of the rolling mill or IS 808, and ask the seller to state the kg/m he bills. As a cross-check, area in cm2 x 0.785 gives kg/m.
