There is no single TMT bar price in India. The rate you pay depends on the grade, the diameter mix, the quantity, your delivery city and the freight the seller has to carry. This page explains how a TMT rate is built, so you can compare quotes like-for-like - and then get a live rate for your own requirement.
TMT (thermo-mechanically treated) bars - "sariya" on site - are traded in rupees per metric tonne (1 MT = 1,000 kg). A quote is normally a basic rate to which extras, freight and GST are added. Two quotes only compare fairly when they are built the same way:

TMT bars in India are made to IS 1786. Common grades are Fe 415, Fe 500, Fe 500D, Fe 550, Fe 550D and Fe 600 - the number is the minimum yield strength in N/mm2, and the "D" grades meet stricter ductility limits. Standard bars are 12 m long. Weight per metre is calculated as d x d / 162:

Yes. TMT and other bars and rods of iron or non-alloy steel fall under HSN 7214 and attract 18% GST. The rate stayed at 18% after the GST rationalisation of September 2025.
Thinner bars take longer to roll for the same tonnage, so most mills add a size extra over their base sizes (usually 12 mm and above). Always check whether a quote is a base-size rate or already includes size extras for your diameter mix.
Both are used. Some sellers bill the weighbridge (actual) weight, others the theoretical section weight - d x d / 162 kg per metre multiplied by length. IS 1786 allows a small rolling tolerance on mass per metre, so agree the billing basis before you award the order.
Both have a minimum yield strength of 500 N/mm2. The D grade must meet stricter ductility limits - higher minimum elongation and a higher tensile-to-yield ratio - which is why structural designers often specify it for earthquake-prone areas.
